Relay is a connector. You add it once to the AI assistant you already use, and after that the organisations you have joined are available to it. There is nothing to install and no new app to open.
You can do this yourself in Claude today. ChatGPT's business plans and Microsoft 365 Copilot need an administrator to add it. Where Relay works says exactly which.
This link is yours. It is tied to this browser, so if you clear your browsing data you will set it up again. Anyone holding it can reach the guidance you have joined, so treat it like a password.
The box above. One tap on the Copy button.
In Claude that is Settings, then Connectors. Other assistants put it in a different place, and some need an administrator. The table below says which.
Add custom connector
That is the whole setup. You will not need the link again.
Carry on using your assistant exactly as before. When you ask about something your organisation has guidance on, the answer comes back with that guidance behind it.
A drawing of the shape of an answer, not a screenshot of anyone's product. Try it inside an assistant first.
Tell your assistant, in so many words: "that Relay answer was unclear" or "that needs reviewing". The rating goes to the organisation whose material answered, for a person there to decide what to do about it. If Relay cannot tell which organisation that was, it is counted but nobody there sees it, and your assistant will say so. Your question and who you are never go with it.
Relay is a remote MCP server, which is an open standard. Any assistant that lets you add one by web address can connect to it. What differs is whether you can do that yourself.
About a minute, in Settings. On Team and Enterprise an owner adds it once, then each person connects their own account.
We have done this ourselvesBusiness, Enterprise and Edu. A workspace administrator adds and publishes Relay. Currently in beta, on the web only, not on mobile. On Pro you can add it yourself for lookups.
From OpenAI documentationA tenant administrator sets it up, with read-only tools. This is a conversation with your IT department rather than something you can do at your desk.
From Microsoft documentationThe consumer way in currently needs a personal United States account, so it does not help a UK school or practice today.
From Google documentationOpenAI does not document a way to add a custom connector on these plans. We treat that as unavailable rather than guess.
There is no way to add a custom connector at all.
Last checked 6 September 2026. We have deliberately not written “coming soon” against any of these. Whether they change is a decision for OpenAI, Microsoft and Google rather than for us, and we are not going to make a promise on their behalf. When one of them changes, this page changes.
Assistants decide for themselves when to consult a connector. This tells yours to check Relay on questions where it matters.
